Trans-Cranial Magnetic Stimulator

What is TMS?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) involves placing a stimulating coil against your head. A pulse of magnetic field from the coil causes small and brief currents to flow in the brain which can influence its activity.

Depending on the type of stimulation, the activity in the brain area can be increased or decreased. If activity is increased, this can improve performance (e.g. make learning easier). If brain activity is decreased, this can temporarily interrupt behaviour. In this study, we will be trying to interrupt speaking to work out how the brain controls speech. This interruption is very temporary and will last for a few minutes only.

TMS does not involve any surgical procedure, or exposure to radioactivity, and you will not have to take any drugs or receive anaesthetic.
